Move or Be Moved

A book and keynote by Dr Aldo Gutierrez

We have more data and more AI than ever. Many organisations are getting slower.

Move or Be Moved is about the gap between what institutions know and how quickly they can act on it, and how to design that gap closed.

The argument

The decision architecture gap that AI cannot fix

Most AI and analytics projects fail for a structural reason. The organisations running them were never redesigned to use what the technology produces.

Most organisations do not have a designed decision system. They have a process that accumulated, committee by committee and sign-off by sign-off, over years and decades. That process was never built for the speed at which AI now surfaces insight, and more AI investment amplifies it.

Decision architecture is the deliberately designed system through which an organisation converts intelligence into committed action. The organisations that design theirs well will set the pace. The rest will have it set for them.

80%+

of AI and analytics projects fail to deliver their intended value. An industry worth trillions has little commercial reason to say where the failure really sits.

The signal-to-action interval: AI shortens the path from signal to insight, while the accumulated decision process between insight and committed action stays long. Signal-to-action interval Signal Insight Committed action AI: hours Accumulated process: committees, sign-offs, untested constraints weeks to months Where decision architecture does its work
AI compresses the path from signal to insight. The time from insight to committed action is set by the organisation's decision architecture, and that is where most of the value is won or lost.

The book

Move or Be Moved

Decision Architecture in the Age of Acceleration

Organisations are becoming slower at the very moment the world is accelerating. The constraint is how they decide.

The book explores the widening gap between what institutions know and how quickly they can act on it. It examines why intelligent organisations hesitate, how governance and consensus create hidden decision latency, and why AI will not transform an organisation whose underlying decision systems stay the same.

Drawing on Decision Intelligence, the discipline of designing how institutions convert signals into committed action, Aldo shows how organisations can redesign authority, thresholds, feedback loops and decision pathways to move with disciplined velocity.

Move. Or be moved.

Keynote

Ready to scale AI, or ready to scale confusion?

Move or Be Moved: The decision architecture gap that AI cannot fix

A keynote for boards and executive teams. It stays clear of tools and vendors, and focuses on the structural conditions that decide whether any of those investments return their value.

  1. The diagnosis

Why organisations keep mistaking a structural problem for a technology deficit, and what failing to redesign the decision layer actually costs.

  2. The constraint

Why the limit is rarely regulation or budget. It is usually an untested assumption about what those constraints prevent, and a map of the space nobody has drawn.

  3. The framework

What Decision Intelligence looks like in practice and where your organisation sits on the maturity curve. Three questions show whether you are ready to scale.

Attendees leave with a sharper diagnosis of their own decision architecture and questions they will not be comfortable leaving unanswered.

The author

Dr Aldo Gutierrez GAICD

Aldo has spent twenty-five years working at the point where intelligence meets action, and asking why so many capable institutions struggle to close the distance between the two.

His career began in the financial markets of Mexico City and took him to a New York trading floor during the Global Financial Crisis. In Australia he managed AUD 3.6 billion in emerging markets equities for QSuper across Latin America and South-East Asia, developing machine-learning-informed approaches to investment strategy.

Today he is a Director at McGrathNicol, where he founded the firm's national Data, Analytics and AI Advisory practice. He works with boards and executive teams across Australia on AI strategy, governance, operating model design and Decision Intelligence.

He has lived and worked in Mexico, the United States, Germany, Sweden and Australia, and is based in Brisbane.
